Watches! One of the most useful inventions man has ever made. If we think a little, we’ll see that we live our lives according to the time: we get up at certain hour, go to work and school at certain hour, when we get married, we have an hour set up… I think the only events that come without being planned are birth and death.

I don’t know how people managed to be in time at the ancient times when watches were not yet invented. Maybe they watched the sky and looked around for signs of nature. Luckily in our modern times we do have watches that measure our lives. I can’t imagine a business man or a woman without one. And because it’s a daily accessory, no wonder that there are many different types available, types according to different personal preferences and different occasions.

What is more, today watches have turned into a real fashion accessories giving space to the imagination of designers. Classic and avant-garde, elegant and glamorous, sport and artistic - there are models for any choice and occasion. The materials can also vary from the commonly used steel to the more luxury gold, platinum and silver. In most cases some durable mixtures between them are used.

When buying a watch, we first have to think of where are we going to wear it and when. If it is for the business day, we need something more simple and plain. That doesn’t mean that it will not be stylish. Even in the simplest models there is space for a little diamond of precious stones provided that we can afford it. The watch for a special event though is something quite different – it needs to be a real good looking one and if it is a woman wearing it – a real jewel, actually. It should look more like a bracelet than like an instrument to measure the time. The modern women know that and they have several different models at home to suit different occasions. The modern men are also addicted to luxury accessories so don’t expect to see any serious man with an ordinary looking watch.

Designers are aware of these tendencies and are preparing their collections with utmost care and imagination so what is left for us is to admire their new collections and consider what suits our budgets. Yes, watches are no more necessary accessories but luxury items we are attached to.
