Possessing a beautiful jewel is exciting. Possessing an antique jewel is an adventure. When it comes to jewelry, there are a couple of things to be considered. First thing to consider is the material of course. I believe that the real jewels should be made of natural materials, such as gold, silver, diamonds, crystals… Everything else, the so called artistic jewels are just decoration – like in the opera and in the theatre. You cannot expect an aristocratic presence if you are wearing imitations. Of course, people are different.

Besides the material, what matters in order that the jewel attracts the attention is the design. Today we have great names of jewelry designers and they please us with glamorous models. It is not hard to make your choice, provided that you have the money.

Third to come is the influence the jewel has on the person that possesses it. Here come the antique jewels. It is not one and the same to wear the newest creation of Virginie Mahé and the ring of Napoleon, isn’t it?

When we talk of antique jewelry, we talk about history. Of course when thinking of buying antique jewelry, we are thinking of buying of jewelry belonging to a certain epoch, rather than hoping to find a treasure like Cleopatra’s bracelet. Victorian jewelry is very popular at the market now. Their prices vary but really refined models could be found at prices above 3 000 $. Another choice is Art Deco & Nouveau jewelry. They have simpler design and there are nice models under 1000 $. Retro jewelry offers more colours and they look more romantic. Good models are over 1000 $.

Regardless of your choice of epoch, your antique jewel will be noticed at once because it is not simply a beautiful item to wear but something special which bears unique atmosphere and has its own story. I guess that is why we buy it – to feel the spirit of a time, long gone by the wind.
